Dried fish and wooden shoes
About people and fish "down in" Sandviken - a humorous walking theater about when the fishermen from north came with stockfish to Bergen in the 1890s.
K: 13 has together with the Norwegian Fisheries Museum made the play Stockfish and Clogs which is a time picture of what happened in Sandviksbukten in the 1890s, a period that was both stockfish and herring trade. The performance is set up as a walking theater where you use the museum as scenery, both indoors and outdoors.
Historical narrative
- The play is a time picture of what happened in Sandviksbukten at this time, a period that was both stockfish and herring trade, says Steinar Thorsen.
He is the screenwriter and also the actor in the play. Along with 15 other actors, both amateurs and professionals. Over the past year, he, together with the museum's own historians, has made a deep dive into Sandviken's history and created a story that is relevant to the time and activity in the area in the late 1800s.
- At that time, people usually used the sea route. The boats were close. It was mainly seasonal workers who lived and worked here. Some packed stockfish, others made ropes. These were relatively poor people, Thorsen continues.
The performance is set up as a walking theater where the museum is used as a backdrop.
- We bring the story to life and draw the audience along the way. There will be both conflicts and humor. Of course, we have also taken some liberties within the historical framework we have, says Thorsen.
- The dialogue between the northerners who came in with fish, the journeyman (the merchant's deputy) who gave commands and the workers in the harbor was often fast, rude and lively, Matre adds. If you are lucky, Madam Felle and the artist Miranda Bødtker will also show up.
The performance is mainly suitable for adults, but children of school age will also enjoy the play.
